The failed attempt was made late on Sunday when the rear window of Demirtas’s bullet-proof car was hit once by a bullet as he and his security team were driving in the city of Diyarbakır, Reuters reported, citing an unnamed spokesperson of HDP.
Demirtas later told the ANF news agency that the bullet dent was noticed when they got out of the armored vehicle but no bullet was found. He added that the car was taken to the crime laboratory of Diyarbakır Police Department for inspection and that an investigation has been launched into the failed attempt.
No group or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.
Turkish nationalists accuse the pro-Kurdish HDP of being the alleged political wing of the militant group Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has recently been engaged in deadly clashes with the Turkish army.
